Chandra Brown served as
the Riverkeeper/Executive Director of Canoochee
Riverkeeper from 2001-2005 and now serves in
this position with the Ogeechee Canoochee
Riverkeeper. Ms. Brown received an A.B. in philosophy from the University
of Georgia and an Environmental Ethics certificate in 1998, and received a
Master of Technology in Environmental Studies from Georgia Southern University
in 2001.
Dorinda G. Dallmeyer is director of the Environmental Ethics Certificate Program
at the University of Georgia. A native of Macon, Georgia, she holds three
degrees from UGA: B.S. and M.S. degrees in geology and a J.D. Her research
has been supported by grants from the MacArthur Foundation, the U.S. Institute
of Peace, the Ford Foundation, the Canadian Embassy, the National Science
Foundation, and the Hewlett Foundation. Among other titles, Ms. Dallmeyer
has
edited books on civilian uses of space, globalization and environmental ethics,
the negotiation of maritime boundary disputes, and marine environmental
ethics. In 2005 she received the Phillip Reed Memorial Award for Outstanding
Writing about the Southern Environment in recognition of her edited anthology" Elemental
South." At
UGA, she teaches courses in environmental dispute resolution and marine environmental
ethics. A devoted natural scientist, she
has lectured on expedition cruises to Alaska, Greenland, Central America, and
the Caribbean in addition to more than 20 expeditions to Antarctica.
Mary
Elfner is Georgia’s
Important Bird Areas Program Coordinator. Mary received
her B.A. in environmental science and chemistry from
Warren Wilson College in Asheville,
NC, and her M.S. in environmental policy and wildlife
biology from the D.B. Warnell School of Forest Resources
in Athens, GA. She has worked extensively throughout
the southeast on land, wildlife and water conservation
and won the American Water Works Association Conservation
Division Best Paper Award in 2004. Mary has worked for
the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Georgia Department
of Natural Resources, and the
Savannah-Chatham County Metropolitan Planning Commission.
She has served as the executive director of the Coastal
Georgia Land Trust, as the president of the Ogeechee
Audubon Society, as a member of the Georgia IBA technical
advisory committee. She was also active in Georgia
Partners-in-Flight for several years, and was the principal
site researcher for the Colonial Coast Birding Trail
in coastal Georgia.
Sandy Layton is an Event Consultant for the National
Fish and Wildlife Foundation where she organizes
numerous national events for the Foundation.
She also has experience in fundraising, annual
campaigns,
and development work through past employment
with organizations including Prevent Child Abuse
Georgia,
Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, and Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation. Sandy attended Georgia State University.
Theresa Perenich is Emeritus Professor of the Department of Textiles, Merchandising
and Interiors in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University
of Georgia. She retired from the faculty in 2000, after being at the university
for 23 years. Her interests include traveling, especially to Italy and
France, non-fiction magazine writing that focuses on travel tales and environmental
issues, gardening and cooking. She is active in the local group of the
Sierra Club.
Christine Rodick is a member of the research and policy team at the UGA River
Basin Center. She is committed to collaborative water resources research
in the United States and in developing countries. She uses her combined
partnership building, teaching and field ecology experience to support
efforts that protect and/or restore rivers, while strengthening the infrastructure
that fosters community involvement in the protection of water resources.
This includes working with a variety of stakeholders to assist with scientific
data collection and interpretation, constituency building and implementation
of water resource protection strategies. She enjoys research and teaching
and is dedicated to linking students with the community for the purposes
of river protection.
Julie Stuart is a consultant and owner of Making Ideas
Visible. Previously, she served as the Program Director for Georgia Conservation
Voters
and
worked
to strengthen
GCV's
advocacy
efforts at the grassroots level by engaging the statewide environmental
and conservation partner organizations and providing them with the tools
and skills they need to become better advocates for their policy issues.
Julie has served as the Chapter Chair of the Sierra Club, and is currently
a board member of the Gwinnett Open Land Trust, an appointee to the Gwinnett
County
Tree
Advisory
Committee and a founding member of the Berkeley Lake Conservancy.
Dr. Wenner is Associate Professor of Geology at UGA with teaching and research
interests in environmental chemistry of surface and groundwater waters. He
holds a B.S. Chemistry, University of Cincinnati, M.S. Geology, California
Institute of Technology and Ph.D. Geochemistry and Geology, California Institute
of Technology. Dr. Wenner has served as a board member for the Upper Oconee
Watershed Network for four years.
